Whats HOT in Events this Coming Week...

Whats HOT in Events this Coming Week

So you are probably thinking - why should I leave the comfort of my own armchair (and remote) to venture out into the world of live entertainment. Well, that would be a good question and one which I am delighted to endeavour to answer for you!

There are so many things happening in the events world right now - way too many to mention. I look at the itinerary and think WOW (pardon the pun) if there were at least five of me then I think I would be able to see still only one fifth of the shows out there!

Look at these Broadway shows for example!

Les Miserables
Mamma Mia!Matilda - The MusicalMiseryOld TimesOn The TownPenn & TellerPenn & Teller On BroadwayPhantom of the OperaRodgers & Hammerstein's The King and ISchool of Rock - The MusicalSomething Rotten!Spring AwakeningSylviaThe Book Of MormonThe Color PurpleThe Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-TimeThe Lion KingWicked
So which do you think out of the above shows hit your 'fancy that' button?

Personally I would LOVE to see the School of Rock the Musical.... I adored the
movie and really like the whole 'rags to riches' storyline of a group of young people staying determined to fulfil their dreams of being in a Rock Band.

Here is a YOU TUBE clip from the musical:

This is definitely a show to see with the family - suitable for all age ranges - young and old! You die hard Rock fans will enjoy all the nod's to the great Rock hits over the last few decades.

What about The Color Purple? An amazingly moving book, then subsequent movie staring Oprah Winfrey and now starring Jennifer Hudson in the lead on Broadway in New York! WOW this is definitely a show I want to see!

Based on Alice Walker’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel and Steven Spielberg’s Oscar-nominated film, The Color Purple spans 50 eventful years in the life of a remarkable young woman named Celie. Set in rural Georgia, this stirring and evocative musical follows Celie during a tragic separation from her beloved sister Nettie through the abusive relationship she endures with her husband Mister and the powerful lessons she learns once a strong-willed woman named Sofia enters her world. Sweeping and heartwarming, The Color Purple is a truly unforgettable theatrical event.

So you see sometimes it definitely is worth getting off the armchair and out of the house! There is nothing quite like a live show!

Have a great weekend!

Mamma Mia, The Lion King and Fun Home

Mamma Mia, The Lion King and Fun Home

These three big hitters have been treading the boards to sold out crowds this last month.

Let's discover why!

Fun Home is a relatively new musical that is currently treating its resident New Yorkers to some hilarious and poignant family moments.
Based on  the new musical by Tony nominees Jeanine Tesori and Lisa Kron that is based on the darkly comic, coming-of-age graphic memoir by Alison Bechdel — officially opened Off-Broadway Oct. 22 at the Public Theater.

Fun Home on stage plus cast
It looks humorously at dysfunctional family relationships and the intricousies of family life.

Taken from Critics review

Fun Home is described as "a fresh, daring new musical based on the acclaimed graphic novel by Alison Bechdel. When her father dies unexpectedly, graphic novelist Alison dives deep into her past to tell the story of the volatile, brilliant, one-of-a-kind man whose temperament and secrets defined her family and her life. Moving between past and present, Alison relives her unique childhood playing at the family’s Bechdel Funeral Home, her growing understanding of her own sexuality and the looming, unanswerable questions about her father's hidden desires."

I have to say I cant wait to see it! Come to Seattle soon Fun Home!

Next up.... Mamma Mia

What a magical, fun and spectacular show! Abba based songs, enriching characters, singing and all set on a Greek Island with a wedding thrown in! Its no wonder that this show is a sell out and the movie based on the musical is also a hit!

From Mamma Mia's official website:

A MOTHER. A DAUGHTER. 3 POSSIBLE DADS.
AND A TRIP DOWN THE AISLE YOU'LL NEVER FORGET!

Over 54 million people all around the world have fallen in love with the characters, the story and the music that make MAMMA MIA! the ultimate feel-good show! The story-telling magic of ABBA's timeless songs propels this enchanting tale of love, laughter and friendship, and every night everyone's having the time of their lives!

Lastly but definitely not leastly...

The Lion King - join Simba, Nala, Timon, Pumbaa and the rest of the jungle gang in this classic Disney musical that is fun for the whole family! After seeing the trailers on our local news channels,

I thought

I knew what to expect. I was OVERWHELMED by the production! I can hardly remember the first 5 minutes as I had to watch through teared-up eyes...it was absolutely PHENOMENAL! I could sit through the show twice a day everyday and still not see everything! What an amazing cast and first class show! Someone asked me who my favorite character was. I can't pick just one because each brought their own uniqueness to the story! I will remember this show forever and will go back again!
Favorite moment: Watching my 8 year old being mesmerized! I guess my favorite parts included Timone and Pumba.

Which ever show you decide to go to - if its one of these three its pretty much guaranteed that you'll have a memoriable theatrical experience!

Kid Rock, Foreigner and Van Halen

Kid Rock, Foreigner and Van Halen,

So, you may be thinking what do these guys all have in common?

Well, they are all currently on tour! Yes, I know they all have fabulous rock star credentials too! I wouldn't dare spark any debate about who is more likely to have the most sold out shows and/or who is the better performer, lets just say, it takes different strokes for different folks!

Lets begin with starting off with Kid Rock. Wow, what an incredibly interesting artist and individual! Why do I say this? Well, born in Michigan he was a total music junkie and as a result was destined to be a performer. The only trouble was that he slotted (neatly I may add) into 3 different music genres being: Heavy Metal, Country Rock and Rap! Well, that's cool (you might think) however, record producers just didn't know what to do with him!

Kid Rock

But with relentless self promotion and touring earned him a cult following. In 1998 his sixth album sold 11 million copies.

Currently Kid Rock is on his 2015 tour with Foreigner from June 24 to September 5.
(Also it should be noted that Kid Rock is on tour with Def Leppard from October 5 - 17).

Foreigner are still going strong! Emerging as a British and American rock band, originally formed in 1976 by veteran English musician Mick Jones and fellow Briton and ex-King Crimson member Ian McDonald along with American vocalist Lou Gramm they are now still thoroughly watchable and as entertaining as they always were!

Here are 2 Foreigner reviews from their 2014 tour:

Really good musicians. Every one of them is very talented. The sound was loud but still really balanced (which as musicians ourselves we were very impressed by). High energy, really tight and together on the songs. They looked like they were all really having fun. Great songs, great musicians, great show.
Favorite moment: URGENT!!!
So you can leave it up to the public to tell the truth and these are two great reviews! Personally, to have Kid Rock and Foreigner both up on stage has to be one show worth seeing live - at least once!

Lastly, but definitely not leastly, is the Great Van Halen

You can catch Van Halen touring at a city near you in the next 5 months and chances are these tickets are going to go like hot dogs so get your quick!

With smash hits like Jump, Hot For Teacher, Can't Stop Lovin' You and Unchained these guys have produced hit after hit and prove to be an act hard to beat!

Fun & Funky Festivals - Go!

Fun & Funky Festivals - Go!

This year there are the same annual favorited festivals to go to and some new ones to try, let's have a look at  a little sample! The number of festivals is vast therefore we couldn't possibly feature all of them as there as so many (which is a good thing right)?

If you are any thing like me then you like to dip your toes into not just one genre of music, cultural scene or expo - but, you like to try a little bit of everything. With festivals (and life) diversity is key!

If you think about it, many of these festivals travel around the world and have been doing so for years, like the Cirque du Soleil for example. Therefore it's a given that they are established and their longevity and popularity can only speak for itself.

Toronto's Beer Festival
It must also be noted that if you get the chance to go to one of the larger festivals you must, the very least once in a lifetime! Toronto's Festival of Beer for example, they look like they are having a terrible time don't they!

We at WOW have the whole lot of festivals to choose from.
From a Gala Of The Royal HorsesExpo Milano 2015: Single Date TicketHello Kitty's Supercute Friendship FestivalBritt Orchestra: Aoife O'Donovan & Jeremy KittelSummer in the City - 2 Day PassTrampled By Turtles & The Devil Makes ThreeSpokane County Interstate Fair: Demolition Derby to a simple Brewsiana - Craft Beer and Music Festival.

The Burning Man Festival (Burning Man Festival - Week Pass) is also one of the noteworthy festivals in the NW.
To those of you who aren't quite familiar with Burning Man this is a little information piece taken from their official website:

About Us

Burning Man is a network of people inspired by the values reflected in the Ten Principles and united in the pursuit of a more creative and connected existence in the world. Throughout the year we work to build Black Rock City, home of the largest annual Burning Man gathering, and nurture the distinctive culture emerging from that experience. The hub of this global network is the 501(c)(3) non-profit Burning Man Project, headquartered in San Francisco, California.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Burning Man organization is to facilitate and extend the culture that has issued from the Burning Man event into the larger world.

Vision

The Burning Man organization will bring experiences to people in grand, awe-inspiring and joyful ways that lift the human spirit, address social problems and inspire a sense of culture, community and personal engagement.
What ever festival you decide to see this year music, dance, horses, beer - make it spectacular!
